Looking For Cherokee Nc If Someone Is 7/8 Cherokee, What Does This Mean ?

If someone is 7/8 Cherokee, what does this mean ? - looking for cherokee nc

I saw in 1924 Baker Roll

566 Crowe, John M 4 7 / 8 Cherokee NC-Sun

579 Crowe, John M 9 5 / 8 Cherokee NC-Sun

One of the two men is my biological grandfather.

If one measures 7 / 8 Cherokee, what am I?

If the other is 5 / 8 Cherokee, what am I?

(How to respect? A sixteenth Cherokee? Please help!
Thank you!)

7/8th means that were 7 of his 8 great-grandparents, full of blood.

5/8ths litle more complicated. This could mean 5 of his 8 GGPS as before. It could be your mother or father was full and the other parent is 1:8 on each side.

Assuming that your bio is married GF Cherokee at all, and the son of your father, it would be 1/4th of Crowe, which 7/32nds or 5/32nds Cherokee. Your father would be 7 or 5 16..

I may be wrong, but I think the "Cherokee on the census" refers to the town of Cherokee, North Carolina, to 7 / 8 and 5 / 8 I think it means that John was aged 4 and 7 of 8 son John was the oldest at age 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to 8 children (people often use the same names over and over again in families, sometimes with a different name so that the genealogy is confusing)

(Assuming you have) no other source of Cherokee descent.

Case 1 One of his grandfathers was 7 / 8 Cherokee. You have 3 more grandparents. The 7 / (8 * 4) = 7 / 32 Cherokee. So not all 1 / 4 Cherokee.

Case 2 One of his grandfathers was 5 / 8 Cherokee. Here are 5 / (8 * 4) = 5 / 32 Cherokee, or slightly more than 1 / 8 Cherokee.
